Earlier this year we produced this bespoke high-spec Contractor Trailer for longstanding customer Metcalfe Farms in Yorkshire. It’s their third TRAMSPREAD Contractor Trailer, and their loyalty and business is appreciated.

It’s seen here behind one of Tramspread Contracting’s tractors showing how one operator can transport and run an entire umbilical spreading system.

This high-spec non-standard build features an ATV/Quad carrying platform in place of one of the hose spools, although it is still capable of carrying 1000m of 5” hose (standard Tramspread 1000m spool). In addition, it features a high-capacity 425CFM compressor and SIL Vision IV radio remote control system with camera.

Other spec includes:

🔵 175hp six-cylinder F.P.T. engine with stainless steel exhaust.
🔵 Bauer Magnum SX2000 slurry pump
🔵 Honda driven Bauer priming unit
🔵 900-litre fuel tank
🔵 Twin sprung high-speed axles with 435/50R19.5 tyres and air brakes

It’s widely known that TRAMSPREAD random wrap hose reelers are the UK market leader. But how has this highly regarded product evolved over time?

The first TRAMSPREAD random wrap reelers (200m and 600m) were introduced in 2007. The company was convinced this was the way forward, and this intuition was to prove correct with market demand quickly increasing and the competition soon following suit.

The introduction of the 1000m reeler was a real breakthrough, with its heavy-duty dual motor design enabling operators to reel-in the longer lengths of hose which were becoming more popular. TRAMSPREAD had pre-empted the move to 5” diameter hose, and the 1000m spool can comfortably accommodate 1000m of 5”.
Rather than relying on commercially available A-frames, to withstand the extra weight TRAMSPREAD developed its own heavy-duty male A-frame for the 1000m reeler.

Last year the new 1400m reeler joined the range, predominantly to cater for increasing interest in 6” diameter hose, and it has been particularly popular for export. Trailed hose reelers have also evolved, and are now of random wrap design, with today’s able to comfortably hold 2000m of 6” hose.
